As a PC player, am I just screwed?
It's no secret that Fortnite players have had severe issues on PC the past 10 months, with the terrible state that the Unreal Engine 5 is in, the bad NVIDA driver updates, and the effect these driver updates have had on DX12.
I am running a very high-end PC, with a 4070 Super GPU and 14th generation Intel i9 CPU, but I cannot reliably run the game in either DX12 or DX11. Fortnite crashes frequently and I seem powerless to do anything to fix it.
Fortnite is the only game that's struggling this bad for me. Other, higher fidelity games run absolutely fine with minimal, if any, FPS drops and not a single crash incident.
I have tried many things, such as:
Switching the EAC launcher to run in high performance mode on my GPU rather than let Windows decide for me.
Switching between DX11 and DX12 with various graphics settings from high to low.
I am currently attempting to run the game in Performance Mode, and have yet to play my first match in ZB or BR in this mode. I have no idea what to expect.
I am struggling to come up with any possible solutions that I am in control of, and feel that if I'm really at the mercy of Epic and NVIDIA to fix their shit, I may not be able to play the game anymore.
Sometimes, the crashes are so bad they cause my PC to reboot entirely. This is a severe problem that could cause damage to my hardware, and I do not want to put my machine at risk.
So, I extend to you a question, in hopes of getting any help:
Am I just screwed?
Edit: I want to clarify that I chose the ZB discussion flair because this is the mode I play the most out of any in the game, with ZB and BR being the two modes where I primarily run into crash incidents.
Update
I have given a few matches of ZB a try on Performance Mode, and while the game looks like doodoo faeces, the experience has been positive with no further crashing occurring.
I have also received some very helpful advice from you guys about which driver version for NVIDIA to revert to in order to be able to run DX11 (or even DX12) again. I want to thank you all very much for your help. Keep being awesome.
