Why do people choose sides/ideologies and start agreeing with everything in that instead of just having independent thing and having your own beliefs and mindset?

Most common and exaggerated example is USA right and left wing(Im not from usa). Why do most people choose one side and agree with everything instead of own beliefs such as agreeing one some points and disagreeing with others on any side, both sides or even no side at all.
