How to choose/find a patron(idk if that's the right term

More or less what the title says, been semi practicing for a while. For a bit I jumped at saying i was Asatru before looking a bit more into it. Been now around 5 or years now and just trying to gain a better understanding of how one find what god(s) to follow within the practice. Do you just choose one or do they reveal themselves to you in some fashion? Sorry if this seems a bit strange or it should be known. Thank you in advance.
