Single girl staying alone, room was latched from the inside while I was away.
I just had a scare at a hotel in Vegas and wanted to know if this is cause for concern.
After leaving my room for about 2 hours, I came back to my only to find the night latch was closed from the inside. I am the only one staying in the room and there was only one key, which I had on me.
The key worked and unlocked the door, but the door didn’t open far—the privacy latch was shut, which can only be done from inside. It was definitely my room (easy to remember number). I tried to open it about 5 times before going down the hall to my friend’s room.
I called security to help me get back in. Took about 20 minutes for them to arrive. Unfortunately I did not have an eye on my door while I waited due to where my friend’s room was.
When security came, they were able to open it first try. Nothing was misplaced or removed from the room…except my lucky rock I keep inside my suitcase pocket.
I ended up changing rooms immediately after security let me in. It’s entirely likely the rock fell out while I was hastily repacking, but unlikely.
Lucky rock aside, I was wondering if this is a common thing that happens or if there’s cause for concern. Security said they’d never encountered this before.
Edit: To be clear, the latch was undone fully when security came to open the door. I heard a couple doors slam while I waited for them to arrive, so it’s entirely possible someone could have left the room before they arrived. The latch is not electronic.
