iPhone 16 Pro stuttering/low refresh rate after unlocking, have had this issue since my 15 Pro on every version of iOS I’ve used
I’ve posted about this issue before and a few other people chimed in with similar experiences. I’ve come to the conclusion that having AoD (Always On Display) enabled is what causes it. AoD utilizes a lower refresh rate, and sometimes when you unlock your phone it won’t be adjusted back up to your usual refresh rate. Typing becomes messy and unresponsive, and if you swipe slowly between two pages you can clearly see it stuttering like it was an iPhone 6 with 1% battery left.
Why this happens, I do not know. But I tried disabling AoD for a day or so to test and the issues disappeared entirely. After enabling it again I immediately started running into the same issue again, and that’s why I believe the culprit to be AoD. It might not be the refresh rate but rather the touch sensors ‘refresh rate’, not sure what that’s called. I’ve just noticed that if you swipe slowly between two pages it will stutter, but if you flick to scroll the animation is still smooth. It seems like the input is what’s less responsive after unlocking.
Sorry if this post ended up a confusing mess, it is kinda hard to explain without being able to demonstrate. Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone else experiencing this problem, and in the hopes that it’ll be fixed at some point. I can’t believe this horribly annoying problem hasn’t been fixed after more than two whole years.
